I already have an email account elsewhere. Why do I need a GMU email account?
All official correspondence from GMU will be sent to your GMU email account. In addition, Federal law (FERPA) ensures the privacy of student records. The only way our systems administrators can be sure they are corresponding with a student is by sending email only to GMU email accounts.
How do I activate my GMU email account?
All students who are enrolled in classes at GMU are eligible for a MEMO mail account. To activate your GMU e-mail account go to https://mail.gmu.edu/ and click on the link "Activating my account".
I have forgotten my password. What do I do ?
If you have forgotten the password to your GMU e-mail account, you will need to get it reset. To do this you may follow any of the following instructions:
- Visit the web page https://mail.gmu.edu/ and click on the link that reads "Click here to reset or obtain your MEMO user-id and password", and follow instructions.
- Call the ITU Support Center at (703) 993-8870, and provide your 9-digit GMU ID number and PIN number. The staff will provide you with a new 8-digit random password.
- Visit the ITU Support Center in Innovation Hall, Room 233, and please bring your GMU ID. An Accounts Administrator will be able to change the password.
How do I check my e-mail?
Email can be checked on the web at mail.gmu.edu. Point a web browser to https://mail.gmu.edu/, to access your MEMO email on the web.
OR
You can use pinememo in your mason(mason) account.
- If you have not activated your Mason account or if you have forgotten your password and need a new password, follow these instructions
Use the pinememo command after you log into your account on the Mason cluster.
- To mason from IT&E Labs, go to the start menu and click on SSH Secure Shell Client icon and press the space bar for the login box. ( If you are using your own home PC, it is recommended that you use SSH (free license for non- commercial can be found at ITU Support's download page). It protects information passing between your computer and the one you use SSH to connect to. (It also has a good drag & drop secure transfer feature.)
OR go to the start menu, click on the run option and type telnet mason.gmu.edu
You will be prompted for your MEMO username and password. After you are successfully logged in the menu lists the options available. (e.g. I stands for Inbox.) Note the hotkeys at the bottom of some of the pinememo screens.
